Welcome to the Dayton Thermal Inspection site Blogs!
I hope to discuss various issues and oddities discovered during my many and various thermal surveys performed here and maybe share with readers some additional cool images taken with my thermal camera. I hope you enjoy and learn some things about infrared thermal imaging, surveys, and inspections as well!
Readers are welcome to view and post comments by clicking the "Comment" link below the original entry.

Bill,
Great welcome sign and great use of software for thermal imaging. Can you explain what you do to pictures so that the casual user coming by can understand why the animated welcome sign above is so cool.
NICE JOB BILL !!!
Certainly Rick! And thanks for the comment!
When using the thermal imager or camera, I generally view and capture the image in a color scheme called "Gray scale". Gray scale provides the sharpest contrast to view and analyze thermal images especially in residential and commercial applications and environments. The image is saved to a hard drive in the camera (some cameras use a removable storage media similar and often the same as digital cameras). The image is then downloaded onto my computer where I use specialized software to view, edit, adjust, and otherwise analyze the image. Here I can change the color palette to a variety of color schemes used for different applications and to assist in highlighting or isolating the thermal anomaly for my clients. I can also pinpoint individual pixels of the image which are translated as individual temperature points to help understand what was occurring at the time of the infrared thermal survey. The software also allows me to adjust the temperature scale to assist with image analysis. The animated image above is the result from an individual image which was adjusted with various color palettes and then transformed (using additional photo editing software) into the animated GIF using each adjusted image.
I'm glad you liked the image! It was taken of our "Welcome" rock placed outside our front entrance. I plan to add many more thermal images here as time allows.
